How to Replace a Lost or Damaged OSHA Card

Written by Staff Writer | Edited by Michael Purser

How to replace a missing or damaged OSHA card.

If your OSHA card is lost, damaged or stolen, you can probably order a replacement for a fee. In some cases, you might need to repeat your training before you can get a new copy.

In many states, you need to keep your documentation on you to work — so it makes sense to get a new one as soon as possible. Let’s look at the OSHA certification replacement process.

The OSHA Card Replacement Process

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration doesn’t keep a centralized record of safety class completion and doesn’t provide replacement cards. To get updated proof of course completion, whether it’s an OSHA 10 card replacement or an OSHA 30 card replacement, you need to reach out to the authorized trainer who provided your original documentation.

If you trained with OSHA Education Center in the last five years, all you need to do is contact our support team for verification to get new documentation. After you pay the $60 replacement fee, we will send you a copy of your credentials.

Other providers may have additional requirements for replacement. Contact the organization you worked with directly for more information.

Reasons You Can’t Get a Replacement

There is no OSHA card expiration date, which means your certificate could technically last a lifetime. However, you should keep in mind two conditions for replacing safety cards.

1. You can only order one replacement.

Under the Outreach Training Program rules, your trainer is only allowed to replace your document one time if you lose the original. If you want a third copy, you will have to repeat the course.

2. You only have five years to make a request.

The authorized trainer who provided your OSHA training certificate keeps student records for five years. After that, you need to complete another course to get new documentation.

In either case, a second round of safety education is the solution.

Benefits of Getting Additional Safety Training

Sure, you might need to repeat your education if you find your OSHA card damaged after a rough day at work. But that’s not the only reason to take more safety training. There are a lot of benefits that come from additional safety education, including:

Updating Your Safety Knowledge

Safety never goes out of style. But the ways workers protect themselves do change over the years. As Technology and workplace hazards evolve, so do federal standards. One of the biggest benefits of updating your safe workplace education is keeping in touch with the latest developments.

Upgrading Your Training

Just because you started with a 10-hour card doesn’t mean you are locked into that program forever. For example, when you started out in construction all you needed was a 10-Hour Outreach Training Program. But if you have taken on more responsibilities and want to further your career, a 30-hour course might be a better fit for you now.

Reducing the Risk of Workplace Injuries

Everyone forgets some of their training over time. Even if lessons haven’t changed much since your initial training, it pays to review what you’ve already learned.

A refresher will help you remember the life-saving tips in each lesson module. That means you will be better prepared to protect yourself and your coworkers.

How to Get Your Replacement Card from Us

Keep in mind that we can only provide an OSHA card renewal once under official DOL and OSHA guidelines. So, if you’ve already received a replacement from us before, then we won’t have the option of sending a new one unless you enroll in and complete the course again.
